Epithelial Exchange Surfaces

From organizing principles to novel culture models of the gatekeepers of the body

We are a European research consortium aiming to gain a new understanding of how the apical exchange surface is formed and functions in health and disease.

Bringing forward Europe’s future leaders in epithelial biology

Our SurfEx project is a Marie Curie Doctoral Network programme that places the training of Doctoral Candidates (DCs) at the core of its approach.

From genetic model systems to organs-on-chip

We combine basic research in small model organisms and cell culture with translational research using advanced 3D culture models that mimic epithelial tissues.

A interdisciplinary and intersectoral consortium

We bring together the required knowledge and skills needed to advance the state-of-the-art in epithelial biology.
